It seems like pop up box cards are my favorite thing to create when it comes to making cards for the kids in my family. Since none of them are old enough to read I find the interactive element to be the way to go.
Before our summerholiday I bought the Saddle Up and Celebrate stampset from MFTstamps. It is illustrated by Torico/Birdie Brown, who is one of my favorite stamp illustrators. I love the fact that there is both a cowgirl and a cowboy in the set, which makes it much more versatile.
For Vilma’s card I used the cowgirl together multiple of all the smaller elements: Wheel, cacti and balloon, but just one cake. I wanted to have enough elements so that the card would be fairly filled. They are colored in with copics, and I limited my colors to a combination of blue, red and green and of course some browns. I think that gives the card a cohesive look. The background and sides are colored with distress oxide inks, which I bought on my shopping trip in California. The sentiment “Tillykke med fødselsdagen” means Happy Birthday in danish.
A few tips: I found the wheels a bit difficult to diecut. In the future I will diecut first and then stamp. To add the elements I first added them to some clear acetate that I then added to the card. It makes it more stable, especially the balloons with the tiny string. If you want to make a pop up box card, make sure to check out my DIY.
